(French Text Will Follow)

As you can see I am practicing for life in Ottawa writing everything in both the official languages of our beautiful officially bilingual country CANADA. Anyway as you know we went on a trip to Ottawa to check it out first hand and honestly it was amazing. The environment, the people, the buildings , everything looked student friendly. And frankly I want to be there so badly. Everyone is bilingual, super nice, and really helpful.

Quite honestly visiting Ottawa and living at the university of Ottawa are two completely different things. Yes it may be boring if you went there on a school trip to see all the boring government buildings. But as a student at the UofO, you will have a totally different experience. The campus is right in the downtown core minutes away from anything major going down in town. Their bus service is really functional unlike our TTC that keeps raising the tickets and lowering the quality of service. Apparently traveling to and from Toronto is easily accessible by bus and train and economical students rates are available, so if you ever feel down and want to come home for a weekend, it’s only 5 hours on the viarail or 6 hours on the bus. Amazing how I found out how long the train ride takes, speaking of how the people are so nice, this guy that had a friend that lives in Toronto literally took out his cell and called his buddy to say “yo how long is the train ride to Toronto?” and hung up just to answer our question( and this is a totally random guy not a volunteer or anything).

In respect to the actual academic path available to us at Ottawa, they basically have anything you could think of doing from marketing hens on the black market to Sociogeobiolomics (basically the study of Sociogeobiolgy*). And they have all these exciting programs in French Immersion , plus for almost all their programs you can do CO-OP as well as Educational exchanges to anywhere from Australia to China to France to almost any country you can think of except Cuba lol . And those of you out there with some sort of a French background (immersion, extended, core w.e), you better be planning to continue with French. Because man when it comes to finding jobs you can’t even imagine how easier it is to find a bilingual position in whatever field you are planning to have a career in. So don’t even get me started on how essential bilingualism is in our marvelous officially bilingual soon to be trilingual ( they’re adding Mandarin) country CHANADA. So if you could do some sort of French somewhere DO IT.

Last and in this case definitely not least the residence at Ottawa. They had tours for almost anything at the university like sports facilities, dorms, classes, and even washrooms and shit lol. So basically we went on a tour for 3 out of I think 5 or 6 different residences and it was hilarious how like they walked a large group of randomers into someone’s room and showed you around and one of the rooms we were supposed to see the person was like sleeping and the room was a disaster 🙂 it was hilarious i felt so bad for the person. But anyway when looking at residence there are two keywords that needs to be kept in mind Conventional and Apartment style residence. The difference is a stove and how many people do you want to share your bathroom with. We saw one conventional residence where you share a shower with the entire floor and like usually share a room with a random roommate which i personally find frightening, however it costs enormously less than the other classy residences; so like everything else, at the end it comes down to $. The “brooks” residence and the “90-U” residence two apartment style residences were pretty luxurious except brooks was like little town houses and 90-U was like a condominium building. In both of these you have your own room and share a bathroom with a maximum of 4 people.

Overall the university of Ottawa is THEEE perfect place for anyone interested in studying bilingually and even if you are planning to study full out English it’s still an amazing campus in an amazing city with very amazing people. And our trip was short, fast and very productive! We didn’t lose a second, we drove, we visited , asked all the questions we could thing of, headed back all in one day. 🙂

*okay don’t try to look that up…

Good luck to us all in this path to success

Mister Teengle

Monsieur Teengle

    I don’t if you’re gonna read my comment but…
Well! I’m a French girl, looking for the perfect place to live in in Canada.
I’m studying Sciences Politique in the city of Lille, and we have to go and study abroad a full year, in one of our partner universities.
The probleme is that I absolutely don’t know Canada, exept the “caribou” and “sirop d’érable” and also les cowboys fringuants and the grands lac très beaux.
So please can you help me to make my choice?
I first wanted to go to Toronto but there is only one available place, so I don’t think that I’ll get it.
I’m hesitating between Ottawa, which you seem to have like very much! and which has a lot a courses about international relations, or other cities like Montreal or Laval, but I’m fed up with french, and I think that I’ll hate french fries with cheese (how do they call that? anyway)
There is also a place at wilfried laurier u, in waterloo, or st francois xavier, simon fraser, victoria…
what is the best place to live in!!!???

please help me quickly, I have to make my choice for december 15!!
    mail me!

First of all I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which
I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how
you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I have had trouble clearing my mind in getting my
ideas out. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost
just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
    Appreciate it!
