41 Hours Alone

This video gets unsettling fast. It’s fairly self-explanatory, a security video of a man being trapped in an elevator for 41 hours. It does not, however explain why the elevator got stuck in the first place, or why it took that long to get him out. The article that goes with it doesn’t either.

After being thoroughly defiled by comments of the idiotic, blooper-loving community of YouTube, some genuine thought came through in the shape of crude commentary such as “I would have shit myself if it was me”. I’m sure what this person meant to say is that this man takes it fairly well. It’s not very hard to go batshit crazy after almost 2 days of isolation.

A friend of mine said “The moral is, don’t smoke”. The moral is this: it takes strength of character to overcome any difficult situation and not fall into despair and depression. So let’s all have it, because we all need it from time to time.

    Stupid as fuck.

Trying to parody something that is serious and borderline tragic (the man almost went crazy for heaven’s sake) is not only stupid, but immoral. Doing so in a way that is so crude and beyond juvenile should be illegal. 3 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

    Oh please…

Sure, this is sad, but it’s been much worse, and we’ve laughed at much less tasteful jokes. You might thing Helen Keller jokes are funny, but think about an entire lifetime without seeing or hearing anything. Now that is tragic.

Yes, you’re right, but I think that a quick choke’n’chuckle at a one-liner is different from a 3 minute marathon of crap .. literally.

  11. 12 E April 29, 2008 at 9:11 pm

The point is condemning that video after laughing at things far less tasteful makes you a hypocrite. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a one liner or a 3 minute video.

Think of it this way. When Anuj told us that joke, we all laughed our asses off, it was at lunch, right? Now, imagine if you heard that same joke about Helen Keller right after a movie depicting her tragic story. Just as funny? Or how about if you heard a joke about Asians during a movie about Hiroshima? Context.
